Engineering Support Manager: Mariem Ortiz

“Women are always saying,’We can do anything that men can do’ but men should be saying,’We can do anything that women can do.”– Gloria Steinem

This week in Women’s History month we highlight our newly promoted Engineering Support Manager, Mariem Ortiz.

Mariem is from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. She came to the greater San Diego area for college to study Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science, and Mathematics. She also achieved her “Engineer in Training” license by the State of California. She enjoys hiking, survival culture, and puppy dog.

When asked, “Why engineering,” Mariem replies, “I was curious and inquisitive growing up, and loved science. I was mostly self-taught in the early half of my life. (I) Learned reading, addition, and subtraction on my own, I used the high school library starting in elementary school. I wanted to check out chapter books on my obsession of the time, often sharks, planes, trains, environmental or forensic science.” Speaking to her biggest career choices she notes, “Science was always the obvious path, but I wanted to implement change, as opposed to studying variables. Engineering allowed me to feed my curiosity, but also implement real-life, applicable solutions that would impact people’s lives.” Her seven year engineering career has culminated in her Engineering Support Manager position at Creative Electron. We are lucky to have her as part of the team.
