Steaming Toward Repairability with iFixit

Steam Deck

If the latest teardown from our pals at iFixit is any indication, it seems that the right to repair movement is being heard.  While the Steam Deck, Valve’s new handheld gaming system, doesn’t get a perfect reparability score, it’s simplicity and accessibility are definitely moving in the right direction.

Starting with screw attached back, which provides easy access to the internals to well labeled connectors, Valve demonstrates a thoughtful approach to reparability with the Steam Deck.  Among it’s more impressive attributes is the ease with which joysticks can be removed and replaced.  While the battery could be easier to replace, overall the Valve Steam Deck is definitely a step in the right to repair direction.

Check out iFixit’s full teardown for all the details and to get their repairability score.  The video also features a 360 degree X-ray image that we’re pretty please with.  Enjoy!  Oh, and don’t forget to reach out if there’s something you’d like to see inside.
